Day 365: Do’s And Don’ts

I really enjoy reading the musings that I wrote in the past, I honestly do,

And I hope you don’t think I’m crazy, but I often enjoy writing letters to myself too,

Today is my birthday and I definitely don’t want to miss the opportunity to write something,

Because I do want to look back many years from now and reminisce on what I was discovering as a twenty-something,

For every other year that I’ll be privileged to live, I do desire to grow and change, evolve and improve,

But I don’t ever want to forget some of the lessons that I’ve learnt on the move,

I don’t write a lot of poetry on my blog, so this is definitely different from my usual style and fonts,

But I do hope that you enjoy reading my list of dos and don’ts:

Do your best to walk the talk,

Don’t be living in a glass house, and then throw a rock,

Do try and find both male and female role models that you look up to,

Don’t assume that they’re all trash,

Whether man or woman, they’re all human. And so are you.

Don’t grow weary in doing good,

Just do your part, and be at rest knowing that you’ve accomplished everything you could.

Don’t give up on love, believe me, one day you’ll say ‘I do‘

The fact that you loved and lost doesn’t mean you’ll never find another love that’s true.

Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young,

Do keep pursuing your destiny, because your journey has just began.

Don’t forget to smile,

Do your make-up and take some pictures once in a while.

Don’t ever lose your ability to feel, laugh and cry,

If you do, your life slowly becomes a lie.

Don’t always wait for the perfect moment,

You would rather do what you can with what you have, instead of constant postponement.

Do love people in the most authentic way possible,

And don’t forget to love yourself, because you’re irreplaceable.

Don’t stop sharing the little that you know,

It will always do you good to help others grow.

When you’re feeling overwhelmed, do go out for a walk,

And don’t forget to pay attention when someone else needs to talk.

Do find your tribe and love them hard,

Don’t assume that everyone will leave you scarred.

Don’t forget that God gives meaning to everything you do,

And His grace will always be sufficient for you.

I don’t take it for granted that I have gotten to see 22,
For many would have hoped to, but never do.

I’ve only had this blog for a year now and I don’t know what the future holds,

But I do know that I want to keep learning and writing as His perfect story in me unfolds,

I’d like to appreciate every single person who has prayed for me, encouraged me and supported me,

Whether I know you or I don’t, I just want to say thank you,

May the Lord bless you as you seek to accomplish that which He desires you to do.
